Ecology in Brisbane

Image
I slowly start to forget how good it is to live in Australia. It is because good things happen here literally every day. This time my University sponsored a weekly trip for me to Brisbane International Conference on Ecology. So far, the first lecture I’ve seen here - presented by Ian was the one which impressed me most. He dig out the books which were well-covered with dust. And as it turned out within the field of ecology we still keep on asking the same questions. We still want to understand the mechanism which drives the matrix full of numbers and we are hardly getting there : ) Although we use better computing technologies than 100 years ago, better experimental techniques we are still left with some kind of frustration, dumb-standing. All we can see are numbers: 145.8365g. 6423.97 cm2, 33.333 m/s. There is many of numbers. And lecture is followed by lecture. There are many of lectures. One can see many figures and graphs. They are usually very complex and they show something. Most...

Homophobia

Yes. Maybe bishop didn’t was as inventive as one Polish guy may think but in my opinion he is still a brave person. Because why I couldn’t change my attitude toward homosexual people before I left catholic country, before I reached for that book? I noticed for the first time that bible is full of contradictions. Even the issue of divinity of Jesus is not clear. Is he considered as a God from the moment of resurrection or maybe from the moment when Holy Spirit has visited a womb of Mary – Joseph’s wife? Homosexuality is wrong, is sick, and is evil perversion. Priests are able to use much more negative epithets on that topic. What is a basis for it? “There is not one reference to homosexuality in any of the 4 Gospels” (page 135). I do not believe that Jesus was blind. Bible is such a big book but with so little about homosexuality in there. The major reference is found in one place in Old Testament. But this part of Bible describes time on be-or-not-to-be of small tribe during the exile....

Sexism

Why bible is biased against women? I am set comfortably in my new home. All heavy material things you need to exist are set in our flat too. I can enjoy reading and writing again : ) I was dragged in. Totally absorbed by one brave bishop from New York: “Yahweh was a solitary male god who did not need a female partner to create life. He created instead by speaking the Word. His Spirit was the essential principle of life itself. Baal worship, on other hand, was intensely sexual, with the sexual power of reproduction honoured as the source of life” (p. 120). Bible appears to be a never-ending struggle to enslave Mother Nature, to kill a worship of goddess. Marriage seems to be more a contract upon which property of male dominant might be passed forth on next generation. Wife as a subhuman is treated by patriarchal tradition more as a possession. Possession, what Jewish kings used to share between each other. Virginity is important part of contract because it is proving the quality of t...
