Autistic and Augressive Ausie

There is a big discrepancy between how you see Australia from overseas and how you experience it from inside. Thanks to our uni we were able to “brake free” and go for a car trip. It was around 6000km of experience. Firstly we went via inland road to Adelaide and then along the coast back to Sydney. I was assisting in Christina’s project (more about it here: http://www.bio.mq.edu.au/dept/centres/pirel/christinabirnbaum.html ) The referendum in 1999 on being independent republic and Tony Abott thing show how difficult it is for so big country with so much potential to change. It is obsessive about its status quo. Quite like a spoiled child who wants to still consume a lot and at the same time stay under protective wing of Mother England. None of the European country is in possession of so much natural renewable resources. Unfortunately the wind farms we have seen in Toora and nearby Port Fairy are here still a rarity. Not to mention about solar panels and small engine cars. The seeds we...

Money.

Hard to believe it but it seems to be true that September 11 was well-planned action which let some people to earn a lot of money. BBC was broadcasting about collapsing the Salomon Brother Tower (next to WTC) 20 minutes before it happened. By now director of that TV station claims he lost all the tapes from that even (They are obliged to keep three copies of each record they made). Why Western people believe more in guru of democracy (Bush/Obama) than to religious leaders in Iran? Nuclear power is much more environment-friendly and produces no greenhouse gases. And there is no democracy without capitalism. Let me cite Bob Ellis who disregards capitalism by calling it a modern slavery. “They are too tired to enjoy their children, and snap at their wife when she rejects a drunken caress, between shifts, at seven am. She has a job herself cleaning hotel rooms, and she her sleep. And the mortgage repayments rates go up (…) and they have to assess what food they eat. If this isn’t slavery, ...

Risky Climate

An ad on main page of my uni + interesting description made us go to the lecture of Peter Singer: http://www.pr.mq.edu.au/events/index.asp?ItemID=3834 Subconsciously I have more respect to the professors who try to look in a dissent way. Suit is a standard, they are usually shaved too : ). Peter Singer didn't bother to look good. But OK. I put off all the prejudices and I decided to stay and to listen to his lecture on "Climate Change". There was nothing new to me about this topic. I think I repeat myself if I say we witness the birth of new religion: Climatology. Peter is like one of its Apostles. He is vegan, he is enlightened. I had a fun on producing new Decalogue for him which fully follows his believes. 1. There is one Climate Change 2. You shall have no other fears 3. You shall not make yourself any other idol 4. Stop criticising Climate Change 5. Honour abortion and euthanasia - they reduce our population 6. You shall not kill any trees - they absorb dangerous CO...

Bore, Store, Ignore.

Sarah Dunant a writer of "Sacred Heart" reveals in last Saturday Spectrum how contemporary art, religion and politics are tightly interwoven with each other. She does it by describing XVI Venice. I think the things has not been changed much in that matter. How could you explain fact that Australian Government spent more money on storing the carbon deep under than on reducing it? http://www.nature.com/climate/2007/0706/full/climate.2007.2.html So. Jewish religion developed the rule which prevent the believers from swine meat consumption. It was at the time of very dangerous parasite called trichina transmitted by pigs. No one knew it at that time. In the Middle Age religion put more constraints on people. Peasants were pressed down this way so that more goods would go to their Master, In Current Age things turned upside down. We deploy anything what makes us constrained. Consumption is guru. Contemporary art connects extremes. Behave as freely as you can because it brings ...

Numb

I do not comprehend the things. It is so hard to grasp this all mentally. 1. Ecology Discussing Table made me feel that phylogenetic biology is like walking across the labyrinth with too many exits : ) which lead to another labyrinths. 2. Minister Of Environment sits proudly in the hybrid car powered by power point. You simply have to plug it in. No one says that energy which is transferred through grid is produced by coal burning stations. The energy use efficiency of grid and electrical engine is never 100%. Greenhouse gas production is shifted away from the car to the country side :)))) 3. Lecture on modelling was kind of hard nut to crack for a beginner like me. We try to predict the the way the population of individual plants will grow. Very intelligent approach made by very intelligent people. Sometimes I wish someone proves chaos to be a driving force in a nature :))) 4. And the look of this girl from behind the arms of young man. A Poster on the train station in Chatswood. Mini...

The apocalypse on its way

I didn't buy today another 1kg of Sydney Morning Herald as I usually do on Saturdays. I found myself drowning in a high tide of news from the previous number. The essay of James Thornton in the section of Environment within Spectrum insertion I found very interesting. Climate change sounds almost like new religion. It is repeated over and over again around. If you do not worship climate change you have no right to call yourself an environmentalist. James visualize a new era ahead of us. We got tired with capitalism already who surprises us with global crisis, we got over the Middle Age with its stiff belief. I agree with him - We need new renaissance. What will it be? He tries to gather "wise" people together and produce new set of beliefs - a new story which would make sense of our lives. And this is the moment i start to protest. I don't agree to treat people as a mass of sheep. In the era of information we can not repeat it again. Let us develop our own free mind, ...
