Sweet Date and Meatless Fish
Polish man is going to spend Christmas among artificial Christmas trees and having bbq close to the beach. It is very unusual for me. Not long time ago while biking with Orange Biking Club to Lucknow I heard an interesting comment to the present times –“ We people of Australia we live in post-Christian era” It is quite shocking statement for someone from catholic country :) but it is hard to say that it is something wrong. It is again a matter of something new crashing against old habits (almost like driving on the left side). I ve been once to holy mass in the Anglican Church in Canowindra while my Rosnay time. It is not that shocking to see a female priest as it is to hear people talking about it with such attitude like it is one of the most normal thing in the world :) – amazing, and It seems that only people from previous Christian era are attending a holy mass, that is people who are like 60 or above years old. What will happen next? Who is going to replace all those oldies in the church then? Bats and Birds? :P.
So we try not worry too much as well about having it old fashion way. We did today shopping at Coles like we always do. We sometimes also try to save money on products by buying the ones with Coles label on it – why pay more for everyday basics :)? I don’t recommend Soya sauce with Coles on it, otherwise all other basics taste basically like not too good not too bad…. except dates! We bought them for the first time today - they are awesome, they are sweet and what is most amazing - they are without this something hard insight (is it really called stone?) on which I usually broke my teeth in Europe. So tomorrow we will do next shopping trying to get equipped with appropriate amount of grill meat :) = bbq time. 10 hours later my parents in Lublin will have a solemn dinner with 12 meals on the table and none of them is allowed to be made with any addition of meat. It is an old tradition, we just do so. It is said that on Christmas Eve all the animals and all people become one family and no one is eating each other at this time. The children are told the story that Christmas Eve is the only day when animals talk to people in people language. The only exception is fish meal – it is not because fish doesn’t talk :) I think it is more about being an old sign of Christianity.
