Pumpkins, Solipsism, Guns & Racism (American Culture)
Following a long entertaining night
with a local Halloween artist and English fiction writer Jack Bell, we have not only acquired strictly American skill of carving Halloween pumpkins but also learnt a lot of
insights on American culture.
Racism. You may wonder why people, that share 99% of DNA with
monkeys, still debate racist issues? Why the very people that were reduced to the population of about ∼2,700 (Zhivotovsky et al 2003) individuals in our most recent evolutionary history pay so much attention to skin colour? We know that there's a great divide. The USA split into North and South. In the North people
hate people but love race. In the South,
people hate race but love people. In my previous blog post on black murderer/American writer, I pondered on source of that racism. It does feel that below race-label runs a deep wound. It looks like it's less about black skin and more
about never healing wound of slavery underneath that skin.
Basically, American wealth was built on backs of hard-working slaves, and that exploitation still continues into modern
times in many subtle forms, be it private prisons or low socio-economics. Not sure if it is solvable issue - maybe a joint go at equity could help?
Solipsism. Another essential
part of American culture is the fact that every single American behaves and
believes that he or she is in located exactly in the centre of the universe.
So next time you see a guy screaming
behind your back, dancing or singing
rap gangster song in his huge truck think of a dude as if he
or she is in the centre of the universe.
The same seems to apply to politics - Donald Trump makes more sense from inside here. And to be honest, USA as a country is too big to fail and I also start to believe USA is located in the centre
of the universe. It's just very concerning that the clown runs the American empire. Sometimes I think that the nation is just tired of
being in that centre of universe and starts to fiddle with fire just like Caesar Nero is blamed to set Rome on fire in July of 64 A.D.
Guns. We never know what mental illness makes people shoot another people but the fact is they shoot a lot in the USA. Looking at the country from geopolitical scale one can see
why the second amendment is so
important. Back in the past, American people were given second amendment to to fight against be it Brits or Mexicans or even against their own government if malfunctioning. It is a way Americans try to protect themselves - "the civic duty to act in concert in defence of the state". In times of peace they are even OK with regular mass shootings. So yes, You live as if this is your last day in America because there are a lot of self-centred guys with guns that may start shooting anytime anywhere.
Pumpkin heads that we took home will protect us hopefully from both mental ghosts and mental people with the guns. As we carried them out around 2 AM we reminiscence on jolly good times with this awesome gang (George, shade off the light with your right hand, please to expose that ghost with white wig):
