Fundraiser, Colors and Empathy
The fundraiser on Oct 28, to sustain Turtle Cove Environmental Research Centre, made me think politically. How on Earth public institutions, like Turtle Cove mentioned above, need charismatic individuals, like Rob (guy on the phone, on the photo below, who let Christina drive the boat while discussing business matters), to find ways to sustain their existence? My hypothesis is simple - levels of empathy differ across political scene. The less empathy for public good the less tax to do public good.

Right seems to be of greed for few (Red Republicans in US/Blue Liberals in OZ). I noticed that right wing parties tend to be made of few alpha males and all the rest sucks up to them in a faith they will become alpha males one day as well. Everyone below the alpha male level is driven by a dream to grab everyone else by their groins that one day. This sort of wild west attitude seems to go back to medieval times where rather democratic peasants were overpowered by their lords. No room for equality here. No room for taxes to support elusive public good.
Left is about the greed for entire human population of a given tribe, ethnics or nation (Blue Democrats in US, Red for Labor in OZ) and opt to distribute wealth evenly recognizing the fact that space and resources belong to everyone. Present Minister of Finances in Australia seems to be scared of idea that everyone should have the same chances to succeed in life and induces fear in OZ by reminding Soviet way of conquering satellite countries (the one of Communists).
Greens (absent in US congress?) are of the same color across the countries. Far left, some can smirk here, but Greens is the only party that tries to stretch their empathy beyond national and biological borders. After all, we all share the same DNA with all the living creatures.
Hmmmm, wetland protection, traffic control, roads, social security are of very little quality in Louisiana and the taxes are indeed low here (~4%) . There is something irresistible in going wild though. Wild things tend to taste so good:
